VICTORIA ISLAND, N.W.T. CHAR FISHING UPDATE

Friend and avid fishermen, Jim Schmid, recently fished for monster arctic char and lake trout out of High Arctic Lodge located on Victoria Island. High Arctic is the world's northernmost sportfishing lodge, 300 miles north of the Arctic Circle. Here unspoiled trophy arctic char and lake trout await you! Plus you can fish the entire day as the sun does not set during these summer months! The lodge sits on Merkley Lake which is about 86 miles from Cambridge Bay. The fishing season is very short here with about 5 to 7 weeks of open water. Muskox and Perry caribou abound in this area which is some of the remostest on earth. Jim says the temperatures were extremely hot during his stay with temps reach the 70s which is unheard of in this area. Jim landed numerous trophy bull char up to 19lbs on both fly and spinning gear. The largest char caught out of the camp during his stay was a monster 28lbs char. The char here exibit a brillant orange coloration during their spawning season. They enter the rivers of Victoria Island out of the Arctic Ocean. Char do not die after spawning unlike salmon. Jim also landed numerous lake trout. High Arctic Lodge offers remote flyouts on Victoria Island to some of the best char fishing on earth such as their Hadly Bay and Nanook River camps. Fishing is normally done wading casting spoons or flies. I had the opportunity the fish out of High Arctic during the early 90s and can highly recommend this "trip of a lifetime". So if a trophy arctic char is on your wish list and to experience "Top of the World" fishing, get in touch with Fred Hamilton at www.higharctic.com

Steelhead action in Algoma, Wisconsin

Had the opportunity to fish in Algoma, Wisconsin on August 11th for salmon and steelhead. 2 friends and I fished with Trio Fishing charters, www.triofishingcharters.com. The weather was ideal for a great day of trolling for salmon and steelhead. The steelhead bite was on as we landed 7 total in a few hours and missed a few more. We also landed a few king salmon and 1 small lake trout. Algoma is located on the NorthEast side of Wisconsin in Kewaunee County. Lake Michigan borders Algoma and has made this town famous for monster salmon catches. The waters get very deep here as we were fishing in over 350ft trolling flies and spoons. If you have ever hooked into a steelhead, you know the fantastic fighting ability they possess. Often once hooked, the steelies come shooting out of the water trying to toss your hook. To get into some of this great action, contact Trio Fishing Charters at triofishingcharter@gmail.com
