LOUISIANA OIL SPILL

For those not in the know, on April 20th an explosion and fire led to the Deepwater Horizon oil rig capsizing about 40 miles from the Louisiana coast in the Gulf of Mexico. The sunken rig is approximately 5000 feet below sea level.

Officials have said the blowout is spewing about 200,000 gallons of oil a day into the Gulf.

On Thursday, April 29th, the oil slick began washing up on the shores of the most productive fish and wildlife habitat in the lower 48 states and is not expected to cease for months.

The area affected by the oil harvests more redfish, spotted sea-trout, tuna, wahoo, shrimp, and other fish species than any of the other lower 48 states. Also the area is home to 70% of the migratory waterfowl during the winter.

Hopefully the spill stops soon and clean up is rapid. Our prayers go out to all involved

KLURES CATCH THE JAWS OF STEEL

Was fortunate to field test some great lures constructed by Kermitt Adams of www.klures.com The lures held up above my expectations to the golden dorado of La Zona which are known to have jaws of steel. Most lures simply get destroyed or break apart. I also was fortunate to catch my largest dorado to date-46lbs- on one of Kermitts lures. Thanks Kermitt for making my trip a huge success!!

La Zona update for April 13 to 16

Friends Cole Lundquist, Kevin Cleary, Chuck Boyian, and myself fished the section of the Uruguay River in Argentina known as La Zona during April 13 to 16 for monster freshwater golden dorado. This was my fourth trip, Cole's third, Chuck's second and Kevin's first.

Fishing was fantastic as usual with a monster 47lbs dorado landed by Cole, a giant 46lbs dorado caught by myself which is my largest to date, a big 37lbs by Kevin and a record for Chuck at 36lbs. Numerous other dorado in the 22 to 33lbs range were caught by all.

La Zona is bar none the best fishery in the world for the world's toughest freshwater fish, the dorado!!

If the opportunity presents itself, this is one fishing trip you have to do!!! In my opinion the best fishery on earth!!!

Cannot wait till I return again next year!

La Zona report for March 22 to 25

Friends George and Ruth Hollenbeck of Livingston, Texas had a great fishing trip on the Uruguay River in a section known as "La Zona". "La Zona" is often referred to as the home of the monster dorado where practically all IGFA records have been set.

As normal, Ruth outfished George with 2 giant dorado of 37lbs.

The water levels on the Uruguay were low but went up during the week. A thunderstorm prevented the Hollenbecks from fishing the last day.
